Oddly enough, I find roughly half of these women more attractive BEFORE their surgery, and half of the remainder unimproved.

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/new...0509160022.html

The article basically says two things. First, that an increasing number people are coming from Japan and China for plastic surgery due to Korean actresses being popular. No useful data is actually provided, so it may or may not be true.

The other part is that Chinese doctors are using Korean techniques and doing more surgeries which is true as it is something I've witnessed. Increasingly, Chinese doctors are attending symposiums and workshops held in Korea.

Just a few years ago, the only travelling done by doctors was Korean doctors to China so they could practice on dead bodies as China law is far more liberal in allowing people to practice proceedures on bodies in China than in Korea.

Evidently, Korean women are concerned about more than just their eyelids, noses and complexions. They seem to be cursed with bulky calves, or "radish legs", as well. In their determination to obtain the westernized ideal of slender legs, they go so far as to have nerves behind their knees severed to intentionally induce atrophy of their calf muscles.

And while the Koreans have too much leg, the Chinese don't have enough. Too short? They can fix that. The solution is to have the leg bones broken, then reset with pins, braces and adjustment knobs that let you pull the healing ends apart very slowly, every day, over a period of months. As new bone fills the gaps, you gain a few inches of height.

Such sacrifice in the name of Beauty. What a shame.

Why do Koeans post old data instead of latest one? Here is ISAPS Statistics 2004
And according to BBC, many of cosmetic operations in Korea are operated by those without proper qualifications. The price of beauty in South Korea

Most Japanese allege/alleged that all Korean beautiful girls was made by a plastic operation. If so, Japanese DO NOT UNDERGO a plastic operation now.

Maybe because of Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm Pro, PopUpCop et cetera, I cannot open the *.asp and *.stm format.

Number of procedures in 2002 was 9,560 (Korea) and 42,842 (Japan)
Perhaps Number of procedures in 2004 shall be 49,560 (Korea) and 2,842 (Japan).
Tell me the correct number in 2004.

Edit (Sep 20 2005)
Patrick Lee, Thank you for new information.

The numbers below tell a story (an incomplete one of course) that Korea has significantly younger population than Japan (hypothesis = more plastic surgery), much less per capita income as of 2004 (hypothesis = significantly less plastic surgery), and according to numbers within the past decade, the rich and poor consume relatively commesurate portions of their respective nations' GDPs.

From our own spooks, the 2005 CIA World fact book:

CIA World Fact Book

Japan:

Median age: total: 42.64 years
male: 40.87 years
female: 44.44 years (2005 est.)

GDP - per capita: purchasing power parity - $29,400 (2004 est.)

Household income or consumption by percentage share:
lowest 10%: 4.8%
highest 10%: 21.7% (1993)

Korea

Median age: total: 34.51 years
male: 33.53 years
female: 35.53 years (2005 est.)

GDP - per capita: purchasing power parity - $19,200 (2004 est.)

Household income or consumption by percentage share:
lowest 10%: 2.9%
highest 10%: 22.5% (1999 est.)

It's not just about cultural perceptions of beauty -- it's about economic means as well.

From the BBC article; "South Korea has just 1,200 certified plastic surgeons. Many thousands of others are operating without proper qualifications. " So we can't just rely on ISAPS Statistics.

Beowulf, You have good taste in analysis of sentence.
I undoubtedly know difference between 'Most Japanese' and 'Some Japanese'.

The reason...
1) I am not a typical/representative Korean. We are all different. Other Koreans give their opinions.
BTW, Star said to me that "Why do KOREANS post old data instead of latest one? Here is ISAPS Statistics 2004.".
"Why do YOU post old data..." is correct!!!!!!!!

2) Lyrt's quoted figure has a delicate shade of meaning. Are the girls Korean in this figure? Where is image source of this figure? Title of this thread is "Cosmetic Surgery in Korea"!!!!!

Lyrt, I cannot bring myself to believe that all Korean girls in your picture had plastic surgery.
Anyway, I wish that your comment were not sarcasm.

Collecting this kind of picture is a good pastime.

Are you seriously suggesting that the girls on the left side of the picture became what they are on the right side only thanks to a healthy diet and sport? Take a good look again.

Note that I’m not suggesting every beautiful Korean woman underwent some kind of cosmetic surgical intervention. I just noticed that Korean celebrities seemed to have to conform to some specific canons of beauty.

Believe me, cosmetic surgery reigns supreme in the Western world too. Check it out.

I politely ask you whether you have a strong piece of evidense.
Please show me your hard proofs that all she underwent plastic surgery.

I socialize with several doctors who do cosmetic surgery in Korea, and there is almost no one involved in acting or singing who hasn't had some sort of cosmetic surgery done.

As well, I help translate procedure writings and videos. I've been learning more about cosmetic surgery that I ever thought possible. Those pictures are a bit small, but I could probably tell you most of the surgeries done.

#1 for example has had double eyelid surgery, nose bridge added, and a very probable rear jaw reduction (hard to tell due to the picture sure). The eyelid and nose bridge surgeries are rather quick with very fast recovery times, but the jaw reduction involves a serious amount of work (including the facturing of the jaw) and a lengthy recovery time.

For women who want only a slight reduction in rear-jaw size, Botox can be used for regular injections (every four months) for a period of up to five years.

Edria Murray said,
QUOTE
Aesthetic plastic surgery refers to any surgical procedure which is used to improve appearance. Common plastic surgery procedures include: Chemical peels, Botox injections, Lip augmentation, Laser resurfacing, Liposuction, Face lifts, Breast augmentation, Breast reduction, Breast lift, Nose job, Tummy tuck, Brow lift and Eye lift.

Although plastic surgery is commonly associated with celebrities such as Michael Jackson, aesthetic surgery is also performed for reasons other than vanity such as scar reduction, reducing symptoms of skin diseases and reconstruction after injury.

I am averse to liposuction, breast augmentation, nose job (nose bridge added) and REAR JAW REDUCTION.

I post up the magnified picture on this board.
This only ficture is insufficient evidence.
ps. 990KB(image size) can be compressed to 300KB by using 'Jpeg Enhancer'.

Enlarging a small picture doesn't really help with finding details which will have been lost in the original shrinking. It's like resampling a 24Kbps MP3 to a CD original in that the lost data is gone forever.

It would be far more useful in correctly naming the actresses/singers involved and finding larger source pictures which would be far more useful in identifying probable cosmetic signatures.

I always liposuction was pretty damn pointless. Usually they don't get very much fat at all, (about 2 lbs) and even if they do get a lot you just end up with a whole lot of empty skin.

Sarang, before we proceed further, can you spot the difference between these two photos?

1) Yes, I do
2) No, petty nationalism prevents me from recognising my favourite idols are not naturally beautiful, but damn, Lee Jung-hyun’s hot.
3) No, but that’s only because I’m blind which would explain other things.
