Which of these five restaurants is my favorite one in Seoul?

One can never go wrong with chicken that is always funny. Barbeque chicken is for has-beens and never-will-bees!

user posted image

The "Red Mango" has fallen on hard times. The restaurant is now in search of a job. I'm not really sure how that works, but it can't be wrong as signs never lie!

user posted image

Teriyaky is just like Teriyaki with the extra "Y" meaning extra "yum!" I think that we could have a winner here.

user posted image

One can never go wrong with a "Fastaurant!"

user posted image

Or Mr. Big Chew, err. Chou. Mister Big Chou since 2002! The rhymes are without end.

And the winner is... Teriyaky! But only because it's Mina approved. Mina can do no wrong because I love her so. And soon we will be together again for the first time. If I eat there enough times, we will cross paths and our love will grow!

I suppose I could always just phone her music label up and say I want to work her and have a very good chance of landing a job based on my experience in Korea already, but why do things the easy way? Though if one day by chance I run in to Mina and she decides to hang out with me, these threads will forever be sent to binary heaven and we will never speak of them because they might be viewed as being somewhat creepy.

Teriyaki? Is Japanese food quite common in Korea?

Edit: I add for the other members that until recently Japanese cultural products were not allowed in Korea.

Historically, Japanese food in Korea has meant "dongaus" which is essentially the pork cutlette dish you added to the cooking thread. Though now "new Japanese restaurants" carry a wider selection of Japanese dishes such a sushi and cooked dishes.

Teriyaki dishes though are very rare. That restaurant is the one of two I've seen that features it. The other is just down the road from that place and opened up a couple months ago.

The import restriction was on cultural products for a profit. Games, music, movies, posters, books, etc. To my knowledge, there never was a prohibition on importing food from Japan nor recreating Japanese food items locally. But up until recently it was the government line that everyone should hate Japan so a lot of people grew up hating Japan. But since the government started saying "Japan is our friend!" in 1999, the number of Japanese restaurants has grown exponentially.

Though it seems that education has still more influence than the new party line.

I thought you would base the decision on where to eat on which place has the cutest staff!
On the "Fasturant" next to the flag-- Does that mean it is a Cuban fast food resturant?

Well, lets look at the flag. Here's Cuba:

Not quite. However, I think we have a closer match to Puerto Rico:

Closer... Hmm. I seem to recall that the Texas state flag has a square blue field...:

Can't quite find the match. Must be a comination of some sort...

I think the Fastaurant is a TexiRican restaurant. And I want one in my town. smile.gif

I'm assuming that the "fast" in Fasturant means "fast food" and the flag is a simplified American flag. Maybe a knock-off of McDonalds?

I don't know the first word, but the second and third words are "American Style".

Whoa! I bow to your superior flag-finding skills. That'll teach me not to have a World Almanac at work.

But I still want some TexiRician food. wink.gif

My sources say that it translates as "traditional" or "original".

I concur with Jim's sources. 정통 아메리칸 스타일 translates as Traditional American Style.

The delegate from Liberia must state that the stripes next to the Fastaurant (Hereby known as "The Cheese") are going in a way that is 90 degrees from that of Liberia's flag. Thus, the delegate from Liberia would like to state that Liberia has nothing to do with The Cheese.
